Great question! Zenguin™ is wearing a spacesuit because our resources are all about helping people explore their inner space in a more fun & friendly - and less scary - way.
Honestly. The resources were initially designed for primary school aged children, but during the test phase, we found that all ages actually love Zenguin™. Teens love Zenguin™. Young adults use Zenguin™. Grown ups tell us THEY like using Zenguin™ for themselves too! Surprised the heck out of us! So, Zenguin™ can be used by anyone.
Absolutely not. Zenguin™ resources were designed with EVERYONE in mind. You don't need to have a diagnosis of anxiety or depression or trauma or neurodivergence for them to be useful. Navigating the modern world right now is tricky & everyone was exposed to an increase in fear during the pandemic, so these are really useful tools to have even if you think your stress levels aren't that high. That said, the resources have been extensively used with people who experience things like anxiety, anger outbursts, overwhelm, depression, trauma & neurodivergence & are friendly to use for most people.
Well spotted! We deliberately haven't assigned any pronouns to Zenguin™ or the other characters. We figured that people can assign whichever works best in their own individual contexts. That way, we hope Zenguin™ can be more user friendly for more people. For the same reason, we used animals to represent the different nervous system states rather than images of people - which I hope means they can translate across the globe. We don't use a lot of language in our key visuals either, so that you can glean a lot just from the imagery.
Some of the neurobiological research findings are only just finding their way into the professional arena, which means that materials are slowly emerging for use within the clinical arena, let alone mainstream. The majority of publications at the moment tend to be text books aimed at professionals rather than user-friendly materials which families, schools & individuals can use. So Zenguin™ takes current, cutting edge theory & makes it accessible to everyone. There is absolutely nothing like our foundational map out there in the market right now & when we share this with people, it really is a game-changer. It completely transforms the way people look at what's going on & gives people much more friendly ways of understanding & communicating to each other.
A very sensible young lady asked if Siany was neurodivergent because she felt that the resources wouldn't be useful if they weren't designed by someone who 'gets it'.
The short answer is yes. Siany has had to navigate complex trauma, PTSD & many other challenges in her own life & the strategies she shares are ones she uses herself. So they are not just designed from an academic or text book point of view. They have had to work in the real world.
More about that aspect of Siany's journey may be released on podcasts or the website as time goes on.
